Matt's Past Picks
Not much better than an NHL Game 7. Big number but I'm like actively rooting for overtime and this way I can (hopefully) enjoy it as a fan while already having cashed. The Oilers went back to Stuart Skinner in net for Game 6, and he was good in the victory but also has allowed at least three goals six times this postseason. Skinner's road splits are much worse as well. If he allows at least three again, we should be fine.
You could make a runline argument here no doubt on Houston, but I'm OK with this price with the Astros back to the team we expected to them be and facing massively struggling Angels lefty Reid Detmers. He was terrific early on but then remembered he was Reid Detmers and has allowed at least four runs in five straight. Counterpart Framber Valdez has allowed just two ER over 14 innings in his past two.
Mendick isn't Martin Maldonado bad, but also hitting just .224 overall and is 1-for-14 this month. He's 1-for-11 career off Jays starter Jose Berrios. It's possible Mendick isn't in the starting lineup but he has been playing regular of late and can't beat this price.
It's the Victoria Day holiday in Canada so that's why the matinee for the Jays, who have won six straight at home vs. the White Sox. Jose Berrios has been excellent for Toronto on the mound and downright dominant at home (2-1, 0.87 ERA). Chicago's Erick Fedde has been about as good, but I'm still not buying it yet for the journeyman/ex-KBO righty and his road splits are considerably worse. Definitely hope the Sox can flip him for a decent haul this summer, though.
I'd like the Wolves to win. Dunno, it's sorta hard watching the Nuggets after a while. All those kinda jerky weird motions that Nikola Jokic does. But don't get me wrong dude is a brilliant player. History has shown us that up-and-coming teams like Minnesota don't win Game 7s on the road. I very remember the Scottie Pippen migraine game in Detroit (that actually helped craft those Bulls as afterward MJ said forget this, I'm taking over). Well, at least he played a little that day and didn't beg out like a certain other time.
There aren't many bets I'm fine with losing but this would be one. Truly despise the Knicks but with Josh Hart and OG Anunoby both reportedly set to play, that should be enough at home. Great Sunday of hoops for sure.
Feels light by about 20 cents. Both teams used their bullpens a ton last night in the 13-inning game but the Rangers I think came out much better from in that regard. And they are just better obviously. They owe us a W in a Michael Lorenzen start as he was terrific last time out but got no support.
Could I hit big-league pitching? Heck no. I'd embarrass and probably hurt myself. But man the bottom half of that White Sox lineup today looks like the worst law firm in history: Julks, Lee, Remillard, Mendick and Maldonado. That's gold Jerry. Gold. Or whatever the polar opposite of gold is. Wouldn't let that group deal with a traffic ticket .. or you know, if somehow my $80 pants (I only wear shorts) were messed up in an accident and I found it necessary to sue/arrest someone. I still find that part so amusing. "Pants damaged beyond repair." Truly don't know who repairs pants (I know there was a shoe guy on Seinfeld's block) or who would even bother to do so.
See my Martin Maldonado prop pick -- if he now hits a three-run homer just kill me. Truly horrific lineup for the Sox. I'm surprised this isn't 1.5.
Gonna go back to pillaging with wifey out of town, but I saw this number and am like huh? The books clearly don't trust Royals starter Seth Lugo much, and I have to say I can't believe he has been this good at 6-1 with a 1.66 ERA. But until Seth proves us wrong and as long as he's not arrested entering the ballpark, which apparently we can't rule out now, I feel pretty good about this.
Came in to rehydrate and saw this. I'm flat-out telling you that I am off the Giants for the rest of the season if they lose here. Don't know about you but in every sport for whatever reason there seems to be a couple teams I can't figure out. SF is definitely one in MLB, and it's like every year at least since Buster Posey retired. Usually it rotates stay-away teams. Just not a fan of that lineup, but Colorado's is pretty garbage today sans Charlie Blackmon and Elias Diaz. Giants starter Kyle Harrison has allowed four runs over his last 23 innings.
Maybe I put too much into intangibles but back in the day -- and obviously I was a million miles from a professional athlete -- I always played better angry. In high school after my math teacher told me that I was going to flunk out, I went out the next day and scored more goals than anyone in the history of the hockey team. OK, I'm excellent at math actually and that's Michael Scott but you get my drift. I believe the Dodgers will be quite perturbed tonight on a two-game skid and getting spanked in the series opener last night. Any higher and I'd have to play runline but would prefer not to. James Paxton is 2-0 with a 2.16 ERA at home.
